Geese are fiercely loyal birds that mate for life with their partner. They are incredibly protective of their partners, often seen refusing to leave the other’s side if one is sick or injured. Even if winter is nearing and the rest of their group begins their migration south! And when a goose’s mate dies, they will mourn their loss in seclusion.

When goose families join together they form a larger group called a ‘gaggle’. They have been observed watching out for each other, with various members rotating sentry duties to protect the group from danger!
